Frequently asked questions

Clear terms before the search begins.

The essentials of working with a Tokyo-based sourcing partner, from mandate definition through verification and delivery.

01What watches can you source from Japan?

+

We source modern, neo-vintage and vintage watches across the major brands, including Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Cartier, Omega, Tudor, Grand Seiko and others.

Tell us the references you are looking for, your condition requirements and your target buy prices. We search our network of Japanese dealers, auctions and other domestic sources for inventory that fits your needs.

02Can you source watches that aren't listed on international platforms?

+

Yes. That's a major reason dealers work with us.

Japan has a large domestic secondary market, including dealer networks, B2B auctions and inventory that is never marketed internationally.

Our role is to give overseas dealers access to opportunities they may not otherwise see.

03Why use GVA Watch Advisors instead of buying directly from Japan?

+

If you already have reliable Japanese suppliers and can consistently find the inventory you need at the right numbers, you may not need us.

Where GVA Watch Advisors adds value is by becoming your eyes, ears and representative on the ground in Japan.

We search beyond the inventory you already see online, communicate directly with local sellers, evaluate opportunities, coordinate due diligence and manage the transaction through delivery.

04Can I send you a buy list?

+

Absolutely. In fact, that's one of the easiest ways to work with us.

Send us your current buy list with references, quantities and target prices. We use it to actively search the Japanese market and send you opportunities as they become available.

Your buy list can be updated at any time as your inventory needs change.

05How do you make sure the numbers work for me?

+

We understand that you're buying inventory, not shopping at retail.

Before we start sourcing, we discuss the references you're looking for and the numbers you need to be at. When we find an opportunity, we provide the purchase price and applicable GVA Watch Advisors fees so you can evaluate your total acquisition cost before making a decision.

If the numbers don't make sense, you don't buy the watch.

06How much does GVAWA charge?

+

Our standard sourcing fee is based on the value of the transaction and is agreed upon before we begin working together.

There are no surprises. Before you approve a purchase, you'll know the cost of the watch, our fee and any known transaction or logistics costs.

For dealers purchasing regularly or in volume, we can discuss a structure appropriate to the relationship.

07How do I know the watch is authentic?

+

Due diligence is a core part of our sourcing process.

We source through established Japanese dealers, professional auctions and trusted industry channels. Before presenting an opportunity, we review the available information on the watch, including its reference, condition, documentation, seller and transaction history when available.

For higher-value, vintage or particularly sensitive pieces, additional verification or third-party inspection can be arranged when appropriate.

Our goal is to give you the information you need to make an informed buying decision and minimize unnecessary risk.

08Can you check condition before I buy?

+

Yes.

We can obtain detailed photographs and review the available information for factors such as case condition, polishing, dial and hand condition, bracelet condition, accessories and other issues that could materially affect resale value.

When additional information is required, we can request it from the seller before you make a decision.

09How does the sourcing process work?

+

It is designed to be straightforward.

You tell us what you're buying, including references, condition requirements and target prices. We search the Japanese market and send you opportunities that fit your criteria.

When you approve a watch, we coordinate the acquisition, conduct the agreed-upon due diligence and arrange delivery.

You make the final decision on every purchase.

10Can you source multiple watches or wholesale quantities?

+

Yes.

We can work on individual watches, multiple-piece orders or recurring acquisition programs.

If you're looking to establish Japan as an ongoing source of inventory for your business, we can maintain your buy list and continuously identify watches that meet your requirements.

11Do you hold inventory?

+

No. GVA Watch Advisors operates as an independent sourcing partner rather than maintaining a standing inventory.

This allows us to search across the Japanese market based on what you actually need, rather than trying to sell you watches we already own.

Our interests are aligned with yours: finding the right inventory at the right numbers.

12Do I need to commit to buying a certain number of watches?

+

No. There is no obligation to purchase a watch simply because we source it for you.

You can start with a single watch to test the relationship and scale from there. We also work with dealers who have recurring sourcing requirements and are looking to build a consistent supply channel from Japan.

13How are payments handled?

+

The payment structure is confirmed before each transaction so you know exactly where funds are going and what you're paying for.

Depending on the transaction, GVA Watch Advisors can coordinate the acquisition with the Japanese seller and manage the transaction through to delivery.

Full payment instructions and a transaction breakdown are provided before funds are sent.

14Can you ship watches internationally?

+

Yes. We work with clients outside Japan and can coordinate insured international delivery.

Shipping options, insurance, customs documentation and applicable costs are discussed before shipment. Import duties, taxes and regulatory requirements vary by destination and remain the responsibility of the buyer unless otherwise agreed.
